Ceramic Relief Project: 'Carriers'

A triptych of ceramic reliefs, 'Carrier' depicts and distorts the interior panelling of an airplane cabin. Stripped of its functional context, the nozzles, buttons and chambers here become the opposite of ergonomic. Instead, they become ornamental suggestions of airflow and transport in a liminal world. Ceramic and glaze materials, along with the relief format in itself, are also inherently liminal: transporting between and across thresholds. Each of these carry information about culture, time and identity. These themes are vital to my work and practice.
